THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. John S. Land, 85, beloved husband of Mrs. Jeannette Newby Land, died Sunday, August 21, 2016, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 23, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Melissa Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Mr. Land was a native of Stapleton, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was retired from Palmetto Electric Co-op as a lineman after 32 years of service. He was an Army Veteran and a member of Young Memorial Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Beatrice Land, his sister, Joyce Burton, and his brothers, Robert Land, Bud Land, and W.C. Land. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jeannette Newby Land, Thomson; 4 step-children, Brenda Boulware and Linda (Ted) Holt, Both of Thomson, Paul (Catherine) McLeroy, Flowery Branch, and Shirley (Danny) Saxon, Ridgeland S.C.; his sister, Annie Florence Burton, Dearing; 5 grandchildren, Allen and Rick Cramer, Theresa Griswell, Matthew McLeroy, and Katrina Stanley; great-grandchildren, Kayla Boatright, Ryan Cramer, Ally Poholsky, Megan Cramer, Carson and Rylee McLeroy; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Dawson Haney. Friends may call at the residence or the Curtis funeral home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday. The family wants to express Thanks to all Res-Care Caregivers.
