"J.T." BELVEDERE, S.C. - Mr. John Thomas "J.T." Smith, Jr., 92, beloved husband of seventy-one years to Mrs. Mary C. Smith, entered into rest on Sunday, January 18, 2015. Born in and a lifelong resident of Aiken County, SC, he was a son of the late John Thomas, Sr. and Cora Lee Gray Smith. A World War II Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Graniteville Company where he was a Machinist. He was a member of Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene, where he was a member of the Copen Sunday School Class. In addition to his wife and parents, family members include a son, Tommy Smith and his wife Vicki, North Augusta, SC; daughter, Gloria Ruiz and her husband Joe, Belvedere, SC; siblings, the late Lizzie Ella Boyd and the late Cora Mae Toole; grandsons, Dean Rutland and his wife, Lori, North Augusta, SC, Andy Rutland and his wife, Paula, Augusta, GA and Brian Smith and his wife, Rebecca, Houston, TX; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at 11 o'clock at Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Kyle Poole officiating. Interment with Veterans Honors accorded by a United States Army Honor Guard, will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Pallbearers will be men of the church.
