GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Ms. Joyce Fields Eckholt, 63, of Gainesville, Ga., left this world peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 3, 2015, surrounded by her family. Joyce was born in 1952 at Camp Picklett, VA, the first of 5 children born to Thomas David and Virginia Katherine Fields. Joyce lived much of her life in Augusta, GA where the family settled after her father retired from the United States Army. She was a graduate of Butler High School and studied accounting at Augusta Technical School. She worked at JB Distributors and was also employed by Radio Cab of Augusta where her father was the general manager. Joyce was fortunate to have traveled extensively throughout the United States and had been to every state except Hawaii and Alaska. She recently visited her brother in Niagra Falls, New York. Joyce was a cancer survivor not just once but twice and befriended many cancer patients throughout the country and abroad becoming their lifeline by providing comfort and encouragement during their times of need. She touched many lives by sharing her story and victory over the disease and maintained contact with many other survivors who will continue to pass along her courage and fierce determination allowing her legacy to continue for years to come. She never lost hope, remained positive throughout her illnesses and and leaves behind hundreds of special prayer warriors who will remember her for her love, comfort and wisdom. One of Joyce's greatest joys for the past few years has been living with her beloved son Brian and his wife Jessica in Gainesville, GA and having the opportunity to help raise her grandsons, Thayer and Brayden. Even during her illnesses, she has remained strong and has taught her grandsons much about life and has helped them to develop their core values of honesty, good character and other qualities that will last them throughout their own lives. Joyce loved and cared for most all people that she came in contact with and while her physical health began to decline, her spiritual health became stronger and she professed her faith in the Lord and had developed a very close walk with Him. Joyce enjoyed talking to friends on Facebook and some of her favorite games included Candy Crush, Farm Heroes and Ice-cream Splash. Her favorite restaurant was Sconyers Barbecue. She loved life and lived it with no regrets. She leaves behind her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jessica Brassell, her cherished grandsons, Thayer and Brayden Brassell, Gainesville, GA; her four brothers and their spouses, David and Sherry Fields; Jimmy and Kim Fields; Billy and Laurie Fields, Augusta, GA and Ben and Athena Pasiak, North Tonawanda, NY; a beloved aunt, Gwen Bostic; beloved Uncle and his wife, Don and Mary Via, New Castle, VA and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend and sister in Christ, Christine Tumm. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Edward (Eddy) Fields. A memorial service will be held 11am, Saturday, September 5, 2015, at First Christian Church, 629 Greene St. A reception will be held immediately after the service in the fellowship hall. Joyce has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the .
