HYANNIS, Mass. - Julia Mary Lamar Langston was born in Augusta, Georgia on April 13, 1931, the first-born of Peter William Lamar (1901-1989) and Serena James Lamar (1906-1971). Julia Mary departed from this life on December 30, 2015 in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Julia attended Haines Institute, in Augusta, Bettis Academy in Edgefield County, SC, Howard University in Washington, D.C. and South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, SC where she majored in Social Studies. In Augusta, she met serviceman Leroy Langston and the two eventually married on December 21, 1959. They were united until his death in 2003. As a devoted military wife, Julia lived in various parts of the country and in Germany, where she volunteered with the Red Cross and assisted kindergarten teachers. After Leroy's retirement from the U.S. Army, the couple settled in Madison, North Carolina where Leroy and Julia became faithful Jehovah's Witnesses. A gentle and kind soul, she enjoyed reading, gardening, collecting artifacts, and making ceramic figurines. Julia Mary is survived by: two sisters, Dr. Carolyne Lamar Jordan (Lawrence) and Claire LaMar Carey (Harmon); nieces and nephews, Tracy E. Williams III, Peter W.L. Williams, Serena Maria Williams, Dr. Nita Williams Walker, Dr. Mayme Williams Nwaneri, Dollie Williams Banks, Robert James Williams, Lara Jordan James, and Dr. Roderick LaMar Carey; cousins, William James, Dr. Martina James Bryant, Georgene James Caldwell, Rosilyn James Martin, Patricia Parrish Stokes and Ruby Parrish Sherman; and a host of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy, and her sister Willarena Lamar Williams (Tracy).
