Lany Albert Howle passed away peacefully April 2, 2017 in Augusta, GA. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 55 years, Barbara Lindsey Howle.

Lany was born on May 9, 1941 to Marie Walker Howle and Caleb Albert Howle. He was the oldest of three children and is survived by his brother, Kenneth Harris of Martinez, GA and sister, Brenda Adams of North Augusta, SC.

He attended the Academy of Richmond County and then joined the Air Force. While in the Air Force he attended Mississippi State University. He served proudly in the Air Force for 8 years. In 1981 he decided to continue his military service and joined the Air Force National Guard 165th Air Lift in Savannah, GA. During his tenure, he taught, created, and developed many policies and received many awards.

Lany's most cherished award was one that he established, the Patriot Award. This award recognizes patriotism of the recipient, who has indicated support for of the national defense by adopting personnel policies which make it easier for employees to participate in the National Guard and Reserve. This award is highly selective and no more than one award is given in each state annually.

Lany was the Director of Materials Management for Walton Rehabilitation Hospital in Augusta for many years. He also worked for Medical College of Georgia and University Hospital in the same capacity. While working in Augusta Lany attended Augusta State University and University of Southern Illinois where he earned his degree in Hospital Material Management.

Lany was a member of The Anglican Church of The Holy Trinity where he served as a Lay Reader. He loved his church and his church family.

He loved all sports but especially all those that involved boating and water. In his younger years he was an avid tennis player as well as tennis instructor. He played competitively for many years and won many tournaments and awards.

Lany often said his greatest treasures in life were his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Terri Freeman (Darrell) of Evans GA, Christy Braddy (Dennis) of Clarks Hill, SC, Lori Hasting (Scott) of Ridge, Maryland and Jodi Anneaux (Bruce) of Lexington, SC. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity, 160 Merovan Drive in North Augusta, SC. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Rob Hartley. The family will be greeted in the Parish Hall immediately following the service.
