APPLING, Ga. - Mrs. Laura H. Gilbert, 83, beloved wife of 59 years of Charles R. Gilbert, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Kiokee Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Hartman and the Rev. Scott Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Gilbert was born in Jersey City, NJ to the late William and Mary Lee Herb and served in the U.S. Women's Army Corp. She and Charles married on September 3, 1955. Through the years, she loved spending time with her family as well as cooking for them. Mrs. Gilbert was instrumental in starting the first Girl Scout Brownie Troop in Appling, GA and was always hospitable and loved to be in the garden. The "Giving Your Best Award" was given to her in July 2002 and she received the WMU Award from the Kiokee Baptist Church in grateful appreciation for 17 years of faithful service at Lake Crossing Health Care. Survivors include her husband Charles R. Gilbert; three daughters, Linda Gilbert (Casey Gordon), Elaine "Meg" Zets (Chris Zets), and Monica Gilbert Parrish (Rev. Scott Parrish); six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
