Leroy Herbert Shackelford, Sr., age 74, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 16, 2017 in his residence under the care of Gentiva Hospice surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Shackelford was a native of Richmond County and spent most of his life in Augusta, before moving to Millen in 1992 and then to Statesboro in 2013. He was a U. S. Army veteran and was retired from the Plumber and Steamfitters Local 150. Herbert was a member of the Fair Haven United Methodist Church in Jenkins County and dearly loved his grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and Georgia Southern University Football and NASCAR fan.

Mr. Shackelford was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Cantrell Peters Shackelford; daughter-in-law, Melissa Lynn Shackelford and his grandson, Eric Michael Shackelford.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyne Burke Shackelford of Statesboro; sons, Bert Shackelford and his wife, DeeAnna of Metter and Louis Shackelford and his wife, Candi of Statesboro; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2017 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February, 20, 2017 in Fair Haven United Methodist Church with Reverend Larry E. Bird officiating.

The burial, with military honors, will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Shackelford, Ricky Shackelford, Chandler Shackelford, Christopher Shackelford, Steven Isabella, John Black, Anthony Black and Bobby Carroll.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Plumber and Steamfitters Local 150.

Memorial contribution may be made to Fair Haven United Methodist Church, Educational Fund, P.O. Box 747, Millen, GA 30442 or Day Spring Walk to Emmaus, P.O. Box 1312, Statesboro, GA 30459.
