AUGUSTA, Ga. - Louis Carlton Dinkins, 78, entered into eternal rest on July 26, 2016 at his residence after his courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held 2PM, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends at 1 PM until the service hour. Casual attire is requested. L.C. Dinkins was born in Augusta, Georgia to the late John David and Alma Dinkins. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Vernon, Gordon, Ralph, Kenny and Gary. Carlton proudly served his country from 1958 - 1963 in the United States Army, serving mostly in Germany. Once home, Carlton started working for the Augusta Police Department. In 1970, he was awarded "Policeman of the Year." In 1986 he was promoted to Captain of the Detectives. He proudly served his city for 30 years. Carlton graduated from Augusta College in 1981, receiving his Master of Business Administration. His survivors include his wife of over 40 years, who called him her "Blue Eyes," Phoebe; sons, Andy (Trella), Mark; daughter, Laura; brother-in-law, Bill (Ramey); sisters-in-law, Iris, Martha and Iva; grandsons, Anthony and Taylor; great-grandchild, Payton; special great-nieces, Kaylan and Kelsey; many other nieces and nephews that he loved. The family would like to thank his doctors who cared for him so many years, Dr. Bowman, Dr. Cohen, Dr. Limbaugh, Dr. Curtis, Dr. Akhtar and Dr. Conkright, as well as their staff and Vicki Beatty with Compassus Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Trinity on the Hill Music Ministry, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, Georgia 30904.
