HARLEM, Ga. - Maj. Luke R. Anderson Ret., US Army, 80, husband of Mary Alice Anderson, entered into rest at home in Harlem on Thursday, July 2, 2015. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Bethesda Baptist Church with the Dr. Clayton Galloway officiating. Interment will follow in South Harlem Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors accorded. Mr. Luke was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Harlem, Ga. He was a native of Nicholls, Ga. and attended Nicholls High School. He graduated from Georgia Southwestern School of Nursing with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. He received a Bachelor Degree in Nursing from the University of Nebraska, Omaha and a Master of Science in Nursing with emphasis on Mental Health Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing and a major in teaching from the Medical College of Georgia. Mr. Anderson began his military service with the US Air Force in 1951 and continued his military service with the US Army in 1963. He served in North Africa 1954-1955 and in Vietnam 1967-1968. He retired with the rank of Major in 1974. Mr. Anderson taught Health Occupations at Lincolnton High School, Lincolnton, Ga. 1976-1986. He worked as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Manager at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. He medically retired from the Coffee Regional in 1997. Mr. Anderson was predeceased by his parents, Archie M. and Mattie Hutcheson Anderson of Nicholls, Ga., a sister, Mary C. Anderson, Reidsville, Ga., and a brother-in-law, William Sanders, Albany, Ga. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Alice Sanders Anderson; a son William M. Anderson (Jennifer), Grand Prairie, TX; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Anderson Haas (Michael), Augusta, Ga.; one granddaughter, Stephanie Lynne Ward, Augusta, Ga.; three brothers, John D. Anderson (Lynette), West Green, Ga., Tommy E. Anderson (Mollie), Nicholls, Ga., and Joseph Anderson, Nahaunta, Ga.; two sisters, Myrtle Veal (Billy), Jacksonville, FL and Martha Durrance, Hortense, Ga.; his sisters-in-law, Patricia "Patsy" Sanders and Arlette Sanders, both of Albany, Ga., as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews. If so desired, memorials may be made to Bethesda Baptist Church, 5793 Old Augusta Highway, Harlem, GA 30814. Active Pallbearers will be members of the US Army Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Jim Walker Adult Men's Sunday School Class.
