AUGUSTA, Ga. - Luther L. Tankersley, Jr. (Buddy), 83, husband of Elizabeth Wheatley Tankersley (Betty Jane), entered into rest on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Doctor's Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son with Pastor Mark Etchell and Dr. Earl Richards officiating with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ken Heaton, Ray McDonald, Millard Bull, Willis Lazenby, Olin Metts and Lee Huey. Buddy was born and raised in Columbia County on Hereford Farm Road and graduated in 1949 from Evans High School. He worked at the family dairy in the early 50's then became a butcher at the Evans Locker Plant. He served two years in the United States Army as well as two years in the Georgia Army National Guard. Buddy became the Postmaster of Evans, GA in 1967 and retired in 1992. Buddy and Betty Jane were married in 1955 and were blessed with four children. He was a member of the Columbia County Fish and Game Club. All the family enjoyed fishing, swimming and skiing. He had a beautiful garden of fruits and vegetables every year to enjoy and share. He was a faithful member of Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Luther L. and Frances Tankersley, two brothers, Donald and Bobby, and son Ronald. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane; sons, Russell Tankersley (Sherri), Darryl Tankersley (Maria); daughter, Glenda McIntosh (Mike); four grandchildren, Sarah M. Smith (Jason), Jessica Tankersley, Wesley Tankersley, Jeff McIntosh (Jessie); two great-grandchildren, Madi and Michael McIntosh; three brothers, Gene Tankersley, Norman Tankersley, and Glenn Tankersley (Patti); and one sister, Elizabeth Smith.
