Mrs. Maggie Alice Dowdle Thompson, 88, beloved wife of the late Charles B. Thompson, Jr. for 68 years, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 13, 2017 at her residence.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Bruton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in Appling, GA, she was a lifelong resident of Edgefield County. She was a member of Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church for over 75 years. She had been a choir member and served as a Sunday School teacher, W.M.U. Director as well as leading Wednesday Prayer Service.

Mrs. Thompson was a substitute teacher for Aiken County Public School District for 29 years. She was a homemaker, gardener, and enjoyed cooking for her family. She also loved visiting and caring for her neighbors and friends.

She is survived by her four children, Nancy T. Minyard of Waynesboro, GA, Charles B. Thompson, III and his wife Beverly of Appling, GA, Robert J. Thompson and his wife Diane of North Augusta, SC and Pamela T. Fort and her husband Steve of Evans, GA; one sister, Cordelia Medlock of North Augusta, SC; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert L. Dowdle, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until service time.

Mrs. Thompson's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
