Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Ann Vaughn McKinney, 80, entered into rest Friday, December 9, 2016 at Halifax Hospital, Daytona Beach, FL. A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Peggy was born February 5, 1936, the daughter of the late Gordon Leigh Vaughn and Margaret Elizabeth Dozier. She married Billy Ray McKinney, son of George Washington McKinney and Viola Elizabeth Loftis, on March 5, 1955 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Peggy was a retired bookkeeper with Windermere Nursing Home in Augusta Georgia and a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Peggy was a charter member of the Augusta Genealogical Society (AGS), a member of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and the Horry County Historical Society of South Carolina. She was also a member of the Town Park Red Hat Hotties of Port Orange, FL. Other than her grandchildren and the Red Hatters, like her mother before her and her daughter Kaye as well, her spare time was spent immersed in genealogy, helping others trace their family history. The Dozier and McKinney lines were her main focus however. She was a direct descendant of Captain John Dozier and Lydia White of Pee Dee, South Carolina- direct descendants of Leonard Dozier of Westmoreland County Virginia. Her husband Billy was a direct decedent of Mordecai McKinney and Elizabeth Dill of South Carolina.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Billy Ray McKinney on June 9, 2006 and her daughter, Cynthia Ann McKinney on April 5, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Moors and husband Nigel of Stoke-on-Trent, England; her son, Lawrence McKinney and wife Elizabeth of Port Orange, FL; two brothers, Thomas Vaughn and wife Rita of Chesapeake, VA and Charles Vaughn and wife Kay of North Fort Meyers, FL; five grandchildren, Kelsey McKinney, Austen McKinney and Conner McKinney of Port Orange, FL and Katie Strickland and Julia Hennen of Jacksonville, FL; and one great grandchild Sloan Elizabeth Strickland.

The family will celebrate her life by receiving friends on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 5:30 until 7:30 at Peggy's home, 4506 Nettle Creek Court, Port Orange, Florida, 32127 (386) 871-3663.
