GREENWOOD, S.C. - Margaret Puckett Williams, 97, resident of 400 East Creswell Avenue, Greenwood, S.C., widow of Goode Mobley Williams, died June 30, 2016 at Hospice House of the Piedmont. She lived in her home for 69 years before moving to National Health Care in the fall of 2015. While still at home, she enjoyed many happy days at Uptown Senior, an adult daycare center. Born in Troy, June 5, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Ira Allen and Effie Dale Harling Puckett. She was educated at Troy Grammar School (7 grades, 2 rooms), Greenwood High School and Lander College. A member of First Baptist Church, she attended the Benson Class. She also was a member of Star Fort Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ivy Garden Club, Lotus Garden Club and Atheneum Study Club. Her life was one of kindness, determination, courage and joy that never ceased. Growing up as part of the ARP and Methodist churches in Troy, her life was rooted in scripture and faith combined with merriment and laughter. A clipping saved from the Troy paper described the Puckett children after a Sunday afternoon outing, as a "happy little band of folks." Mrs. Williams was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Bradley Williams, a son-in-law, Dr. Cecil Richard Bowman of Staunton, VA, four brothers and two sisters. Surviving are two daughters, Dale Williams Scurry and husband Dr. Ralph Brooks Scurry, Jr. of Augusta, GA and Elizabeth Williams Bowman of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Ralph Brooks Scurry III and wife Jamie of Charlotte, NC and Margaret Scurry Deese and husband Jack of Augusta GA; and three great-grandsons, Brooks Scurry IV, Edward Scurry, and Jack Deese IV. Survivors also include a sister, Judy Edwards of Kingstree, SC, a brother-in-law, Jack Edwards, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church, with Dr. Tony Hopkins officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church parlor. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery. The family is at her home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 722 Grace Street, Greenwood 29649 or to Hospice House of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood 29646.
