THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Margolese Jones Long, 79, passed away to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Doctors Hospital. Margolese grew up in Augusta, attended Houghton Elementary School, Mount Saint Joseph High School and graduated from The Women's College of Georgia in Milledgeville, Ga. with a degree in Elementary Education. She was very active as a teenager in activities in the St. James United Methodist Church. She taught in the public schools, was a Sunday school teacher and sang in several church choirs. She had a beautiful singing voice that was taken away by her lung condition. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her two children. She loved to read, sing and cook. She would often share meals on wheels to shut-ins and friends. She believed strongly in family ties and family history. During the last year of her life she produced scrap books for her children and grandchildren that will pass along the history of our families to future generations. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Thelma Jones and her only sister, Ann Stone. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Norris F. Long Sr.; a son, N. Franklin Zip Long Jr. (Nada); a daughter, Melanie Long Strawser (Terry); two grandchildren, Laura Jean Long and Hannah Long; an adopted son, Rev. Gary Dean; an adopted daughter, Dr. Kathy Webb; a lifetime friend, Jackie Andrews and a special friend, Mary Durham. The family will have a private burial service. A memorial service will be held at Thomson First United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2 pm, with Rev. John Barnes, Rev Gary Dean and Rev. Bob Gillespie officiating. The Exodus Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
