CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mrs. Marilyn Bailey Jones, 80, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Tuesday, the 29th of March 2016 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House - Southminster in Charlotte. Mrs. Jones was born the 21st of November 1935 in Sandersville, GA, one of two children, to the late Willie Clinton Bailey and Mary Esther Meadows Bailey. Most of her life she lived in Augusta GA, where she worked as an engineering clerk with AT&T for thirty-six years. She was a member of the Communication Workers of America, Telephone Pioneers of America and the Second Baptist Church of Augusta. The Jones family will greet friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Thursday, the 31st of March 2016 at Ellington Funeral Services, also from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 PM Saturday, the 2nd of April 2016 at Smith Funeral Home, 120 S. Main St., Wadley, GA. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Bartow City Cemetery, Bartow, GA. Mrs. Jones is survived by her only son, Benton Vinson Jones, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren: Margaret Marilyn Jones of Atlanta, GA; Benton Vinson Jones III of Manhattan, NY and Rachel Bailey Jones of Augusta, GA; a sister-in-law, Jean Bailey of Gainesville, GA; two nieces and a nephew: Dorothy Jean Bailey, William Leslie Bailey, Jr. and Claire Rockett. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Benton Vinson Jones, Sr. and a brother, William Leslie Bailey, Sr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, 14600 Weston Parkway, Cary, NC 27513.
