NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mr. Marion E. "M.E." Powell, 93, husband of the late Mary Harrison Powell, entered into rest on Sunday, June 21, 2015. Born in Abbeville, SC, a son of the late Marion L. and Corine Brabham Powell, he had been a resident of Aiken County, SC, since 1952. A highly decorated World War II Veteran and a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, he honorably and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from E.I. DuPont, where he was a Supervisor, after over thirty-five years of service. Mr. Powell enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the Carolina Jamboree. In addition to his wife and parents, family members include daughters, Barbara Montgomery and Miriam Powell, both of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren, Jerry F. Montgomery and his wife Amy and Tracie Field and her husband, Brian, all of North Augusta, SC; six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and his good friend and fishing buddy, J.W. "Bubba" Rumley, New Ellenton, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 11 o'clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC, with Pastor John Bolin officiating. Interment with veterans honors provided by a United States Army Honor Guard, will follow at 3 o'clock in the Melrose Cemetery, Abbeville, SC. Pallbearers will be James "Bubba" Key, David Whitaker, Brian Field, Larry Moore, Freddie Bell and Pete Thompson. Memorials in his memory may be made to The Carolina Jamboree, c/o Magdeline Widener, P.O. Box 892, Bath, SC 29816.
