WAGENER, S.C. - Aiken County native Mark Timothy Wall, born October 7, 1955, died at his home in Wagener on Monday, June 1, 2015 from apparent heart failure. Mark graduated from LBC High School in 1973 where he played baseball and later continued with baseball as a pitcher at USC-Aiken. He always loved to play baseball and as a kid wanted to play for the New York Yankees. As a youth playing Dixie Youth baseball he often played shortstop even though he was left handed. At USC Aiken he was a relief pitcher. After college, he worked as a cable installer for Aiken Cable with his famous blue truck he called Frances. That is where he met his future wife Melissa Mason. She encouraged him to pursue an entrepreneurial career and as a result, he became a poultry farmer in Aiken County like some of his uncles and cousins in Barrow County, GA. Mark and Melissa were married in 1999 and after 8 years of marriage adopted two little girls Kaleigh Grace Wall and Mason Melissa Wall, now ages 8 and 6. Mark and Melissa were together until her passing on July 1, 2012. Melissa was known for her laughter and fun but more importantly for bringing Mark out of his shell. He was a natural born curmudgeon and wore proudly his Grumpy baseball cap. He was a toughie on the outside and a marsh mellow on the inside. Mark never shied away from hard work and actually enjoyed working. He was a dog lover and two in particular he loved, Jake and Baxter. They went with him everywhere. As a single dad, Mark, like most single parents, worked hard at getting Kaleigh and Mason to school, making their meals, taking them to gymnastics and karate and whatever else little girls like to do. He loved his girls and they adored him. They never wanted to be too far from their daddy. Mark was an active church member at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Aiken, where he had been a deacon. Mark was preceded in death by his mother and at one time his best friend, Mildred Wood Wall; his dad, who he admired greatly, Ellis Wall, both originally from Barrow County, GA and his beloved wife, Melissa. He is survived by his brother, Louis Wall and sister-in-law, Deena, of Augusta; his nephew, Ryan Wall and his wife Janine of Columbia, SC; his niece Meghan Wall Eller and her husband David of Augusta; his aunt Lois Wall; cousins Tony Wall (Denise), Melissa Wall Saunders (Ashley), Philip Wall (Jackie), Mike Wall (Patsy) and Melinda Wall Williams (Kendall), Ronnie Wood (Linda), Jimmy Wood, Betty Wood Houston, Linda and Judy Wood. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 3PM at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Aiken, SC. Burial to follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Kaleigh and Mason Wall Education Trust, c/o Security Federal Bank. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted at www.hatcherfuneralhome.com. The family will greet friends at the church from 1PM until the time of the service. Arrangements by Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, SC.
