AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mary Stephens Stroup, 81, wife of the late John D. Stroup, entered into rest Sunday, March 15, 2015, at her residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 20, 2015, at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Chaplain Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Stroup, daughter of the late J.L. and Ruby Lee Stephens, was born in Alma, GA, but lived in the Augusta area for 65 years. She retired from the display department at Sears, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Jack C. Fortune Post #205. She was a member for 41 years and held numerous positions in the Ladies Auxiliary including that of President four times. She volunteered at the VA Medical Center and was the nursing scholarship chairman and the liaison for the Ronald McDonald House. She was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Edward Stephens, and her sister, Betty Taylor. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Patsy Beal, of Hephzibah; her stepchildren, Raymond "Bud" Lewis, Valorie Kim Stroup Jordan, Suzy Stroup Cecil, Johnni Stroup Bibbins, and Ginny Peoples; her brother, Wilbur Stephens; her grandchildren, Belinda Janssen, and Jamie Davis; four step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and eight step- great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Doug Beal, Zach Beal, Ronnie Janssen, Larry Tyra, Dustin Tyra, and Grayson Pippin. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
