HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Harris Turner, 80, of Hephzibah, GA, joined her loving husband of over 60 years in Heaven on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Evansville, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late William and Amelia Koenig Harris. Mary was raised in Long Beach, CA where she met, James, the love of her life, at a USO dance while he served in the US Navy. They relocated to James' home state of Georgia where they devoted their lives to raising their four children. She opened her heart to all with loving kindness and encouragement, affectionately known as Mama 2 to her grandchildren, their friends, and many throughout the community. Everyone enjoyed her cooking and hospitality as her home was always open to family and friends sharing wisdom around the kitchen table. Mary was past Treasurer of the Hephzibah Lions Club and volunteer with The Lydia Project. While raised in the Catholic Church, Mary worshiped in her husband James' faith at Hephzibah Baptist Church. Mary served local Credit Unions for over 35 years. She was a founding member of the Triple C Federal Credit Union at Continental Can which grew into Augusta Metro. As Manager, she reorganized the Fort Gordon Federal Credit Union, adding a branch office, mentoring staff and serving members until retirement. She shared her heart and faith through many writings such as, "The awesome wonders I see is the beauty of the person, not their status in life, not their talents, not their looks, it is their heart, my children and their love, my husband James and his continued love, dear friends, and the beauty of nature... I am surrounded by it." Her James preceded her to Heaven just two months ago. Survivors include Sons, David (Marie) Turner, Donald (Sheri) Turner, daughters, Debra (David) Usry, Denise Turner; brothers, William Harris and Peter Ortez; grandchildren, Shanna (Joshua) LaFontaine, Lauren Usry, Autumn Turner, Allison Turner, Christopher Turner, Summer Turner and Amber Turner; great grandchildren, Brett LaFontaine, Cole LaFontaine, and many nieces and nephews. Her faithful dog, Katie, who Mary spoiled with specially prepared dogfood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 9, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 10, at 12:00 p.m. with Rev.
