Funeral Services for Matthew Thomas Reilly, PhD, 43, of Rockville, MD, who passed away on May 15, 2017, will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Pastor David B. Hunter, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

Matthew was born February 13, 1974 to Thomas Adam Reilly and Mim Louise Reilly in Augusta, GA. He graduated from North Augusta High School. After high school, he attended the College of Charleston where he received degrees in Chemistry and Psychology and was on the swim team. He received a PhD in Neuroscience from Oregon Health Sciences University and did Post Docs at the University of Queensland in Australia and the University of Texas in Austin. He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. For the past nine years, Matthew has been a Program Officer at the National Institutes of Health, Division of Neuro Science and Behavior where he has authored numerous papers and publications.

Matthew was passionate about music and loved to play the guitar. He had a large collection of guitars and amplifiers. He also like to scuba dive and dove in many places including Australia, Hawaii, and the Galapagos. Matthew also loved animals, especially his beloved, rescued dog, Lucky.

Matthew is survived by his parents, a sister, Elizabeth Reilly of Charleston, SC and a brother, Paul Reilly of Greer, SC and his wife Jenny Reilly. He is also survived by a niece, Madeline, a nephew, Andrew, cousins, aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5 until 7.
