Retired DuPont Supervisor BEECH ISLAND, S.C. - Entered into rest on Saturday, April 2, 2016, Mr. Melvin P. Blackburn, Sr., loving husband of 62 years on the 17th of April to Mrs. Barbara Odum Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn was born in Bath, SC to the late Hubert P. and Elizabeth Bratcher Blackburn. He was a retired DuPont project supervisor with 37 years of service. He was a member of Bath First Baptist Church, the Harry Barton Sunday School Class and the Joy Group. Mr. Blackburn loved to fish, play the guitar and the banjo. His greatest love, however, was for his wife and family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Because of his intense love for all of his children, the heavenly reunion of father with beloved daughter, Janice Blackburn Bryant, is a joyous celebration. Family members are his wife, Barbara Odum Blackburn; three children: Patti Toole (Jerry), Beech Island, SC, Melvin P. Blackburn, Jr. (Shannon), Beech Island, SC and Jennifer Feemster (Jason), Graniteville, SC; two brothers, the late Charles Blackburn and the late Paul Blackburn; grandchildren: Kerri Toole Holtsizer (Chris), Dana Thomas (Robert), Kelli Harris (Jacob), Kyle Bryant (Heather), Bailey Blackburn, Hannah Blackburn, Matthew Blackburn, Carsyn Feemster, Emma Jane Feemster and Charlotte Feemster; great-grandchildren: Erin Holtsizer, Evan Holtsizer, Nolan Holtsizer, Chloe Thomas, Robby Thomas, Lily Thomas, Jani Harris, Juli Harris, Ali Harris, Jake Harris, Steven Lewis (Bentli) and Katelyn Spradley. He was "Papa" to all of his grands and great-grands friends as well. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at noon at Bath First Baptist Church with Pastor Herb Sons and Jason Feemster officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, South Carolina. Pallbearers will be Jessie Spradley, Chris Holtsizer, Robert Thomas, Steven Lewis, Larry Newman and Harry Barton. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Harry Barton Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Solomon's Project, c/o Bath First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 240, Bath, SC 29816. Friends may call at the residence or on Monday evening from 6 until 8 at the Hatcher Funeral Home, 3464 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Graniteville, SC.
