AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Mildred Jacobs Stroud, 94, went to heaven on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, and is now with her Savior and Lord.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 5:00 PM, from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Mr. Garry Morgan officiating.
A burial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM in Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, GA.
Mrs. Stroud was born in Cobb County, GA near Austell on January 9, 1921, to the late James Selvin and Mattie Morris Jacobs. She married Gerald Philip "Bud" Stroud on November 16, 1942, in Atlanta. They were married for over 68 years before his death in 2011. She lived in the Atlanta area until 1954 when she and the family moved to Waynesboro where they attended Burkehaven Chapel. In 1960, Mrs. Stroud began instructing six 5-year-old students in her dining room. This "school" later grew and became known as "Mrs. Stroud's Kindergarten." Over the next 30 years, she introduced many young children to letters of the alphabet, numbers, colors, painting, playing basic musical instruments, the Pledge of Allegiance, and patriotic songs. Each day, Mrs. Stroud began class with a prayer, a Bible story, and Scripture. The lives of many young citizens of Waynesboro were greatly impacted by time spent with Mrs. Stroud during their preschool years. In 2002, she and Bud moved to Augusta where they attended Bethany Chapel.
Mrs. Stroud was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Stroud, her daughter, Peggy Ryals, and her grandson, Jonathan Stroud. She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Thompson, of Augusta, and Patricia Passink (Lenny), of Birmingham, AL; her son, Phillip Stroud (Pamela), of Martinez; her son-in-law, Allen Ryals, of Brunswick, GA; her grandchildren, Neil Thompson, Bryan Passink (Maggie), Elana Jones (Chad), Matthew Stroud, and Caroline Stroud; and great-grandchildren, Blair Passink, Sarah Passink, Molly Jones, Anna Grace Jones, and Ryals Jones.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Good News Network, P.O. Box 510, Appling, GA 30802, or to Gideons International, 50 Century Blvd., Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
The family will receive friends at the conclusion of both services.
