AUGUSTA, Ga. - Montine Jowers Campbell, 98. wife of the late Reverend Guy Campbell, entered into rest Thursday, August 18, 2016, at her residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 22, 2016, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Jeff and Carolyn Felter officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mrs. Campbell, daughter of the late George and Bertha Dean Anglin Varnum, was born in Jefferson, GA. She worked as a weaver in Sibley Mill and Riverside Mill, and was the oldest member of Bayvale Baptist Church, where she attended the Happy Timers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #63 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a kind and loving mother. During her active years she cared for many neighborhood children, often carrying a car full to church. She loved to go to Gospel sings and she was good to all animals and fed lots of feral cats. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Audrey Ramsey, wife of Truett; three grandchildren, Elijah Fulmer, Bennie Bargeron, and Melissa Nimmons; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Nimmons (Melvis), of Edgefield, SC, and Pat Burtt, of Augusta; her brother, Julian Varnum (Bea), of Jefferson, GA; her grandchildren, Tim McLean, Mary Carpenter, Tara McLean (Chris), Sheryl Huffstickler, Lisa Burgess (Jim), Marsha Fields, Phillip Nimmons (Beth), Susan Spake, Larry Fields (Gail), Donnie Ramsey, and Randy Ramsey; 26 great-grandchildren; seven great-great- grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dr. Ginger Winburn, of Augusta. Pallbearers will be Tim McLean, Chris McLean, Tripp Fields, Matt Carpenter, Phillip Nimmons, and James Burgess. The family would like to thank the Hospice nurses for their loving care during her illness. They would also like to thank her caregivers, Sandra Evans and Earlene Morton. Your acts of kindness meant a lot to the family.
