AUGUSTA, Ga. - Nathan Kersey entered into rest Friday, July 7, 2015. Mr. Kersey was his wife Barbara's soulmate, best friend, light of her life, and her partner in marriage forever. He was a class of 1966 graduate of Richmond Academy. Mr. Kersey was an outstanding athlete at Tubman Junior High School and Richmond Academy in football. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving as a Navy Med-Coreman attached to the Marines. His platoon and men who served with him called him "Doc Kersey" and said he was a hero. He received a Purple Heart and many other commendations. Mr. Kersey was proud to serve his country and proud to be an American. Mr. Kersey's untimely death is a great loss to his friends that he grew up with and loved him. Mr. Kersey was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Hunnicutt. Mr. Kersey is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Barbara Kersey; sons, Brian Stewart, Nathan Dee Kersey, Christopher Kersey, Joseph Ray Kersey, Kristopher Kersey; daughter, Erika Kersey; step-daughter, Alicia Jean Woods; brother, Robert "Robbie" Hunnicutt III; sisters, Belinda Boone and Briget Lively; nephew, Michael Boone; grandchildren, Stephen Davis, Karlee Kersey, Abagail Kersey, Brooklynne Kersey, Katlyn Kersey, Ashley Kersey, Ellyssa DeHalle, Bailey Kersey, Chrissie Kersey, Natali Woods, and Alivia Woods; great-grandchildren, Stephen and Kylie Davis. Memorial services will be held 3pm, Sunday, July 19, 2015, at the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Associated Credit Union, 3749 Wheeler Rd., Augusta, GA 30909, C/O Barbara B. Kersey to assist with funeral expenses.
