AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Osborne Salis "OZ" Burks, Jr., quietly and peacefully departed this life on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Charlie A. Norwood V.A. Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church, 2454 Golden Camp Road, Augusta, Reverend Melvin Lowry, pastor; Reverend Mark Deaton and Reverend J. R. Hatney, officiating. Interment will be in Walker Memorial Park. Mr. Burks was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. Osborne served his country in the United States Army and shortly there after he began his professional career as a physical Science Teacher for thirty years in the Georgia School System, where he retired. He also retired from the Augusta National after twenty years of service. Mr. Burks was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the American Legion, Master City Golf Association, Bowling League and the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. Survivors are his devoted wife of forty-nine years, Mrs. Helen Burks; three daughters, Dana D. Burks, Pamela Davis, both of Augusta and Veronica S. Oliver, Centerville, OH; three sons, Thomas Burks, Garye S. Burks, and Jerry Smith, Augusta; three sisters, Irma Daily, West Point, MS, Jessie (Melvin) Arnold, Lorman, MS and Jenita (Bruce) Stewart, Troy, MI; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
