Retired Postal Worker
WASHINGTON, Ga. - SFC Ray Christopher passed away on June 15, 2013 at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center after an extended illness. Ray was born in Stephens, Arkansas on December 3, 1949. Funeral services for Ray Christopher will be held Wednesday June 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Hephzibah United Methodist Church, 4431 Brothersville Road, Hephzibah, Georgia 30815. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. For more information, call 706-293-1015. At a young age Ray joined Seminary A.M.E. Church (Stephens, AR). After moving to Augusta he joined St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member for twenty-five years. He joined Hephzibah United Methodist Church in 2009. Ray retired from the Army Reserves after twenty- three years of service and he retired from the Unites States Postal Service after thirty-six years. Ray received many awards for his service in the military and the Post Office. He leaves to mourn his death his wife of forty-one years, Lillian Beard Christopher; a son, Attorney Byron T. Christopher; a daughter Sara D. Christopher; two granddaughters, Nicole Christopher and Morgan Christopher of Benson, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by one son, Reginald A. Christopher. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Seminary A.M.E. Church, 564 Quachita Road, Stephens, Arkansas 71764. Ray always wanted to do something for his childhood church.
