Bob was a native of Arcadia, Wis. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War with the HAL 3 Seawolves as a helicopter door gunner. He was a firefighter and EMT with the Miles City Fire Department in Montana and had made Augusta his home for the past 19 years. Bob was an Emergency Department Registered Nurse at University Hospital and the Medical College of Georgia. The last few years of his life, Bob and his wife were traveling RNs before returning to Augusta. He was proud of his two sons, Christopher, a Naval Aviator and Jeff, a student Naval Aviator. Dear Marlys & Family,

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Bob was a special person who will be missed on earth, but surely welcomed in Heaven. It was my pleasure to help you guys with a couple of cars over the years, and there were few families in all my years here who made such a lasting impression on me. The love you showed for each other, for your sons, and for your future together was obvious to me. I recently lost my dear wife Marie to diabetes, so perhaps I can feel a little bit of what you're feeling. Some moments are overwhelming, some days are sad, but the future is bright with the promise that our Precious Savior has given us. Our loved ones are within us now, and we will join them one day in a most joyful reunion. May Christ hold you close in your sorrow, and may you continue to bless one another, as I'm sure Bob would insist.

With love,

Tommy Hodges

Marlys,

I am sorry that I didn't hear sooner....I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear about Bob. He was such a neat person and I will always remember him, mostly for his love for you and the boys and for what a great person and nurse he was, but also for his thorough triage documentation! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. If there is anything you need, please let me know.

God bless and be with you all,

Tina

Marlys,Chris and Jeff,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Bob will be missed dearly by all of the people who ever worked with him or knew him. He was a man whom I have the upmost respect for. If I am ever able to be: half the nurse, half the father, and half the person that he was I will consider myself successful. My family is praying for yours.

Love,

T.J.,Heather and Caroline

To Mrs. Marlys Hogan and Family: Please accept my deepest sympathies in this trying time for you and all who knew your Husband, Bob. I didn't know him in person, but I know who he was in Vietnam. He was one of the bravest fighters I knew of, a door gunner on a Navy helicopter that supported SEAL operations. As an Army fella, I know first hand what those folks did. On a night in August 1968, in the early hours of the morning, our Detachment came under mortar fire from the Viet Cong. Our location was miles from any air support. But, in the distance, we heard that old familiar "Pop, pop, pop" of the HUEY helicopter, and a voice that came on our net, asking if they could be of any help ? The answer was YES, we were being mortared. The response from the HUEY was, "Yes, we can see the blast from the tubes. Will take care of it for you. We still had not seen the HUEYs. Suddenly, the night was lit up, as rockets and machine guns fired on the suspected location where the mortars were located. There were two HUEYs on station. They each made a pass, turned, and can back for another pass. After the second pass, all was quiet. The HUEY came back on net and said that they had been supporting SEAL operations a few miles away, and were headed for home, when the saw and heard the commotion. So, they came to help. And they certainly did. One of those door gunners, could have been Bob Hogan. That would be nice to know. So, I knew who Bob Hogan was. He was one of those Navy guys who helped save a lot of us folks on the ground. I know you and your family are proud of him, and will always remember him for many reasons. Be comforted to know that he saved a lot of folks in time of need. My best wishes for his sons who are pursuing a Navy career, as well as the entire Family in their endeavors. By the way. I grew up in the Martinez community, before I left for UGA, and a subsequent Army career. May The Good Lord watch over you and your family in the days and years to come. Bob Hogan was, indeed, a special person to many. Jim Pyle, LTC IN US Army, Retired.

Marlys, Chris, and Jeff, Tim and Florence: The only one of you that know me is Ms. Florence but I feel like I know each and everyone of you since she talks of all of you all of the time. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you through this sad time and I pray for peace and healing for each of you. It has been a tough battle to watch for me, I can not even imagine being you. I truly hope you all find peace in the fact that Bob no longer suffers. May God Bless and keep you all safe.
