CLARKS HILL, S.C. - Robert Willie "Boowee" Luke, Jr. was born June 11, 1942 in Appling, Georgia to the late Allene and Robert Willie Luke, Sr. Robert was the fifth of eleven children. A sister, Annie M. Lampkin and four brothers, Judson, Eugene, Cleveland, and David, preceded him in death. Robert confessed Christ as his personal Lord and savior at an early age. He joined Friendship Baptist Church, was baptized, and began his Christian journey under the leadership of Reverend M.O. Tankersley. Robert was educated in Columbia County and attended Blanchard High School. Robert was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mary Louise Williams in June of 1965 and she preceded him in death. To this union, a son was born, Eric Luke. Robert will be remembered by his family as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His favorite hobbies were gardening and fishing. He enjoyed setting up his rabbit box during the winter and checking it daily to see if he had caught anything. Robert had a good sense of humor and he could make anybody laugh. He was a kind and friendly person. Robert departed this life peacefully on February 22, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memories: a son Eric (Karen) Luke, Hephzibah, GA; two daughters, Cheryl (Moses) Germany, Harlem, GA and Jacqueline (Tracy) Tarver, Millen, GA; a devoted friend, Annie Ruth Gibson, Harlem, GA: five sisters, Addie Phillips and Nerrie D. Luke, Los Angeles, California, Ella Mae Ivey, Evans, GA, Carrie Bowdre, Appling, GA, and Catherine Burns, Augusta, GA; one brother, McGahee (Cassandra) Luke, Evans, GA; mother-in-law, Mary Williams, Clarks Hill, SC; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at C.A. Reid Funeral Home on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, February 29, 2016, 3 p.m., at Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 3425 Rosemont Road, Appling, GA 30802.
