Shannon AUGUSTA, Ga. - Robert L. "Bob" Shannon, died at his home surrounded by his large and loving family on September 21, 2016. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta. Mr. Shannon was born on August 4th, 1940 in Squire, WV. Bob was interested in computers and frequently helped others with this understanding of technology. He taught Electronic Technology for several years at Augusta Tech and he retired from Fort Gordon, Chief of 31M Course, and again from ASU Media Services as Classroom Services Manager. He served as President of AFGE Local 2017 from 1974-78 and he was a member of the Richmond County Democratic Party, having served as Newsletter Editor for over 20 years. Bob was a humanist and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta. He always looked forward to the annual family campout on the Tallulah River, sharing his love of fishing and camping with his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, Claire; his children, Robert "Lee" Shannon II, William "Ed" Shannon (June), Raelene Vautrin, Janis Edwards (Worth), Jon Webber (Terrie); his siblings, Fay Shannon, Shelby Leedom, and David Shannon, all of Princeton, WV, and Ray Shannon of Gretna, VA. He was a loving and tolerant grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Grumpy." In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Richmond County Library, where Bob was a weekly visitor. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
