AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ruth Evangeline Pearson entered into rest on Monday, February 29, 2016. Ruth, who lived 101 years, was born in North Dakota and grew up in Chicago. She was a registered nurse and decided to serve as a missionary nurse in China. In 1941 she was living in Baguio City, Philippines, studying Chinese waiting for the war in China to end. She never made it to China, and at the end of 1941 was interned in a Japanese civilian prisoner of war camp. In this camp she met the man she would marry in 1945 when they were repatriated back to the United States. In 1953, Ruth and her husband moved their family back to Baguio City, Philippines where they remained until 1986 when Ruth and her husband retired to Augusta. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, one son and one daughter and three daughters-in-law. She is survived by three sons, three daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, as well as grand and great grandchildren. Ruth was guided in life by her unshakable faith in Jesus Christ and his promise of salvation. May she rest in peace. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11 AM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 402 Aumond Road, Augusta, Ga.
