MARTINEZ, Ga. - Entered into rest Monday, January 4, 2016, Mrs. Sally Kate Sollie, 88, loving wife of Carlton Raymond Sollie. Mrs. Sollie passed away peacefully with family by her side and holding her hands. Mrs. Sollie was a native of Meridian, Mississippi. She spent most of her life in Starkville, Mississippi, living much of the time on the campus of Mississippi State University, where her husband was a professor of Rural Sociology. In 2008, she and Raymond moved to Martinez, Georgia to be closer to their children. She was an old-fashioned homemaker who loved cooking, and if you were fortunate enough to sit at her table, she made sure that you ate well. She loved gardening and was very creative in crafts and decorating. Sally was a natural comedienne with a keen wit and a repertoire of funny stories. She never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew her. Her many friends included the members of the Inquirers Sunday School class at Starkville First United Methodist Church where she and Raymond were members for forty-nine years. She was pre-deceased by her husband of sixty-four years, Carlton Raymond Sollie; her parents, Martin Luther Ford and Mary Etta Ford (Goodman), Clark County MS; sisters, Irma Shirley, Louise Bunyard, Marjorie McCoy, and brother, Alfred Ford. Survivors include sons, Ray Sollie (Laura), Evans, GA, Mark Sollie (Kay Jackson Sollie), Martinez, GA; and daughter, Donna Sollie (Chuck Hill), Auburn, AL; sister, Mary Frances Hughes, Starkville, MS; sister-in-law, Winifred Jay, Meridian, MS; grandchildren, Emily Sollie (Jonathan Ernst), Matthew Sollie (Sarah), Ethan Sollie Hill, Hunter Sollie, Tyler Sollie, Taylor Sollie, Crystal Jones (Jay), and Erica O'Brien; and six great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at a memorial celebration at her residence, 319 Habersham Circle, Martinez, GA on January 17 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sally will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. The love that she gave freely throughout her life has and continues to touch many lives. A private graveside service for Sally and Raymond will be held at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Zero Community, near Meridian, MS at a later date. The family would like to extend its special gratitude to the ER Staff of University Hospital Augusta and especially Dr. Justin Geisler and the nurses on duty who took care of her in her final hours. They were outstanding. Memorial contributions may be made to the , 516 West Avenue, North Augusta, South Carolina 29841 or to the charitable organization of your choice.
