HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - CPO (Ret.) Shelby T. Jennings, Sr. entered into rest Monday, January 19, 2015 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. from Mount Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, 1237 Summer Street, Augusta, with Reverend Albert Young, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, with full military honors. *The family will receive friends this evening at the church from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Mr. Jennings was a member of Mount Zion A. M. E. Zion Church. He served, from youth to adult, as a Buds of Promise, Steward, member of Zionites Choir and HHB Gospel Chorus. He received his education in the schools of Richmond County and was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School in 1969. He enlisted in the Marine Corp and served six years. He was an outstanding serviceman and later enlisted in the U. S. Navy and retired after 21 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer, Supply Department. Survivors are his wife, Patricia Royal Jennings; four sons: Shelby (Dorothy) Sharpton, Shelby Timothy Jennings, Jr., Ezekiel Jennings and George Smith; two daughters, Shuntel (Gregory) Hammonds and Crystal Neal; ten grandchildren, Keonde', DeNiro, Shakeyra, Shelby, Andre', Audrey, David, Eric, Shania and Sean; three sisters, Selfie Culbreath, Eddie Ruth Jennings and Dorothy (Cornelius) Sturgis; one brother, Richard (Mary) Jennings; three sisters-in-law, Joann (Delbert) Nero, Alzenia Williams and Mattie (John Henry) Johnson; two brothers-in-law, William (Mattie) Royal and Henry (Sharon) Royal; three godchildren, Ronald, Drai'mon and Breai'; a very special, loving and caring nephew, Robert Culbreath; special friends, Kittrell (Kitt) Thorpe and Marion and Almeta Sanders; a host of other relatives and friends.
