AIKEN, S.C. - Shirley Rita Leche Johnston departed this life Thursday, January 1st, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry McMorris Johnston, Sr. and her son, (Mc) Harry McMorris Johnston, Jr. She is survived by sons Robert L. Johnston (Pam), Dr. Kevin R. Johnston (Joan) and daughter Gail J. Jones (Craig). She is also survived by grandchildren Charles Nash Johnston, Rachel Hanisee, Julianne Cheek, Eric C. Johnston (Heather) and Robert P. Johnston and great grandchildren Brenna Hanisee, Sean Hanisee and Ryleigh Johnston. Shirley was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 9th, 1920. She moved to Savannah, Georgia in 1929 and returned to Louisiana in 1937 to attend Louisiana State University. She graduated in 1941 and was married the same year. Shirley moved to Aiken in March of 1953 and began her teaching career at Kennedy Junior High School in 1962. She retired from the Aiken County School system in 1982. She was a communicate of Saint Mary's Help of Christian Church for 61 years. Shirley would like to be remembered as a good wife and mother, someone who liked to laugh, who loved God, children, animals and helping others. A private mass will be held for the family Monday, January 12th. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held Monday, January 12th at 1:00 at The Green Boundary Club, 780 Whiskey Rd., Aiken, SC 29801.
