ALLENDALE, S.C. - Sudie (Lulu) Godfrey Oswald, widow of John Council Dunbar Oswald, passed away peacefully at the age of 101 in her Allendale home Wednesday July 8, 2015 surrounded by family and friends. Born June 21, 1914 as the fourth child of seven to Romie and Lucille Godfrey, Sudie grew up as a "Gaffney Girl." She attended Winthrop College then Droughn Business College in Columbia, SC. She worked as a law assistant in Allendale until marrying Dunbar in 1938. She and her husband farmed together and were named Master Farmers in the early 1950s. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church in Allendale serving on the Women's Auxillary and was an avid gardener and member of the Garden Club. For many years she volunteered with the Heart, Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Red Cross organizations. She was devoted to the game of bridge and doted on her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Chihuahuas. She is survived by one son, Edward Godfrey Oswald (wife Anne), five grandchildren (Cindy Overlock, Virginia Ann Taylor, Johnna Simpson, Edward G Oswald Jr and Laurel Anne Harward), ten great grandchildren, five great, great grandchildren and Big Dog. She is predeceased by a son, John Council Dunbar Oswald, Jr. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 10am at Swallow Savannah Cemetery - 4747 Bluff Road, Allendale, SC.
