AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Susanna Crenshaw Wilcox Braithwaite, 85, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, entered into rest on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Westover Cemetery in Augusta, Georgia, the Rev. Gregory Hatfield officiating. Mrs. Braithwaite was born in Augusta, Georgia, the daughter of the late Frank Battey Wilcox and the late Lucille Crenshaw Wilcox. After attending Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, she married the late Robin Bruce Hillhouse Braithwaite of London, England. They were married for sixty years and together raised five children, living in both England and Augusta, Georgia. She was the quintessential homemaker and an avid gardener. She was a member of Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church and she was the spiritual center of her family, having taught bible study classes for much of her life. No better words can be found to describe Susanna than in Proverbs 31. Mrs. Braithwaite is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Peyton Wilcox Lee (Lansing) and was predeceased by her sister Virginia Battey Wilcox Norvell. She is survived by five children: Bruce Wilcox Braithwaite of Princeton, New Jersey; Carolyn Anderson Braithwaite Hooks (Dr. Vendie Hudson Hooks, III) of Augusta, Georgia; David Crenshaw Braithwaite of Houston, Texas; Robin Anderson Braithwaite of Aiken, South Carolina (Cheri) and Andrew Dabney Braithwaite of Augusta, Georgia. Mrs. Braithwaite is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: V.Hudson Hooks, IV (Lauren) of Atlanta, Georgia; Maj. David J. Braithwaite, USAF (Julie) of Destin, Florida; Susanna Hooks Sayer (Dr. Jason Sayer) of Augusta, Georgia; Dr. Carolyn Braithwaite Jordan (Ben) of Augusta, Georgia; Virginia Raybon of Atlanta, Georgia; David Braithwaite Hooks (Clare) of Augusta, Georgia; Diana Braithwaite Gary (Kenneth) of Atlanta, Georgia; Katherine Wilcox Hooks Billings (Timothy) of Athens, Georgia; Capt. Taylor S. Braithwaite, USMC, (Jennifer)of Aiken, South Carolina; Katelyn Braithwaite Glance (Derick) of Augusta, Georgia; Sarah E. Braithwaite of West Palm Beach, Florida; Andrew D. Braithwaite, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; and Colin A. Braithwaite of Aiken, South Carolina. Mrs. Braithwaite is also survived by twelve great grandchildren.
