AUGUSTA, Ga. - Thomas Tom Michael Wood Knight, 61, father of Thomas Lucas Wood Knight, entered into rest on January 1, 2015, at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 5, 2015, at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverend Greg Hatfield officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington, North Carolina with the Chaplain Tom Robinson of the Wilmington Fire Department officiating. A native of Wilmington, North Carolina and a 1972 graduate of John T. Hoggard High School, Tom was a man of many hats and trades, including, a former Fighter Pilot with the Alabama Air Guard, Firefighter (volunteering with the Winter Park Fire Dept. and the Ogden Rescue Squad in NC, as well as the Martinez, Hephzibah, and Grovetown Fire Depts. in Ga.), Deputy Sheriff in New Hanover County, NC, EMT (Gold Cross, Rural Metro, South Star EMS), Race Car driver, TV News Director and Meteorologist (morning Meteorologist for WAGT NBC Channel 26) having worked in Television for 19 Years, and finally Masters Level Therapist. He was even involved in the NASA space program, becoming a part of one of the Challenger flight crews, almost making it to space on her last successful mission. Tom was the first Certified EMT in Wilmington, NC. He graduated from Troy University, Mississippi State University, and The University of Central Florida. At UCF, Tom was a Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Brother. He was a PhD. candidate in Psychology and worked at the Aiken Center as a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor. In addition to his son, survivors include his former wife and mother of his son, Donna Knight-Ferrara; one step-son Brian Culpepper; He was preceded in death by his parents Lester Harold Knight and Florence Wood Knight, and his brother Lester Harold Hal Knight, Jr. Pallbearers will be the Columbia County Fire Rescue and Grovetown Department of Public Safety Fire Department Honor Guards.
