WARRENTON, Ga. - Mrs. Vera Smith Buffington, wife of the late Mr. C.C. Buffington, Jr. died Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., today, Friday, July 29, 2016, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson GA, with the Rev. Sandra Leightner officiating. Mrs. Buffington, a native and lifelong resident of Warren County, GA, was the daughter of the late Charles Albert and Ola Johnson Smith. She was a retired secretary with Wilhoit Gas Company with over 30 years of service. An active member of the First United Methodist Church of Warrenton, Mrs. Buffington was also a member of the Burkehalter Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. Affectionately called "Aunt V" by her family, Mrs. Vera enjoyed hosting family and friends at her Lake House at Clarks Hill. She loved flowers and enjoyed working in her yard and sitting on the screen porch at her home on Johnson Street. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Buffington was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Cook Buffington; two sisters, Ailene Johnson and Esther Johnson; two brothers, Donald Smith and C.A. Smith, Jr. Pallbearers will be Gary Johnson, Douglas Johnson, Pat Johnson, David Hunter, P. Scott Johnson and Brice Mock. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Burkehalter Chapter DAR, If so desired, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Warrenton, 412 Main Street, Warrenton, GA 30828.
