Anderwald King SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Pauline Veronica (Vera) Anderwald King, 92, of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Augusta, GA, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016. Vera was born October 11, 1923 to Thomas and Eleanora (Snaer) Anderwald. She grew up in Bandera, TX, graduating from Bandera High in 1940, and attended San Antonio Business College. She joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, eventually being assigned to Fleet Marine Forces Pacific in Honolulu as secretary to the Inspector General. She was active in the Augusta Marine Corps League chapter receiving its community service award in 2007. On January 1, 1948, she married Henry Lafayette King and they made their home in Atlanta, GA before moving to Augusta in 1962. She returned to San Antonio to live in 2013. Vera worked as a medical administrative assistant at the Augusta V.A. Medical Center until her retirement at age 77. Vera is survived by son, Jesse Paul King, of Lincolnton, GA; daughters, Virginia Lee King and husband Robert Willingham of Washington, GA, and Henrianne Westberg and husband Wayne of Moscow, ID; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind three sisters, Sister Bernadette Anderwald of Incarnate Word, San Antonio, TX, Louise (Ed) Koehler of San Antonio, TX, Joan Walters of Bandera, TX; and sister-in-law, Delores Anderwald, of Buffalo, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers, and two sisters. Visitation and Rosary was held at Grimes Funeral Home, Bandera, TX on Monday, May 2. Funeral Mass was at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera at 10 a.m. on May 3, followed by interment at the New Catholic Cemetery FM Road 1077. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, P.O. Box 757, Bandera, TX 78003.
