NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - A visitation for Mr. Walter W. Harper Jr., age 85, of North Augusta, who entered into rest March 25, 2015, will be held at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 until 8. Walt was born on October 29, 1929 in Jacksonville, Florida to Pearl Mae Thompson and Walter W. Harper, Sr. He served in the Korean War in the 304th Signal Battalion prior to coming back to the States and beginning a 40 year career with E. I. DuPont Company at the Savannah River Site. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty O'dell Harper; three children, Sue Senn (Rhett), Evans, GA, Jane Whittington (Buddy), North Augusta, SC, and Walt Harper (Joan), Martinez, GA; two grandchildren, Phillip Whittington and Emily Harper; a sister, Frances Harper Smith, North Charleston, SC. Walt loved fishing in the Low Country and a private funeral service for family members and fishing buddies will be held on Edisto Island, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Herbert S. Harper MD Endowment, c/o University Health Care Foundation, 2100 Central Avenue, Suite D, Augusta, GA 30904. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses at University Hospital for their diligent and compassionate care in his final days.
