Walter Johnson Obituary

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Walter Johnson, Jr. funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, 2 p.m. a the Summer Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Wilbur Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Walter Johnson, Sr., and Late Lillian Harrison Johnson was born in Aiken County. He attended the Public School of Aiken County and was a graduate of Martha Schofield High Class of 1963. He attended Voorhees Technical College on a basketball scholarship. He relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y. and enlisted in the New York City Police Academy and graduated in 1968, where he was a police officer for years and retired in 1982. Survivors are 2 daughters, Sharon D. Johnson, Winston-Salem, N.C., Annette (Johnny) Allen, Augusta, Ga.; 1 son, Craig Moore, Phoenix, Arizona; 3 brothers, James (Eliza) Johnson, Marvin (Annie) Johnson and Curtis Johnson all of Aiken, S.C.; 2 sisters, Bertha Johnson, Aiken, S.C., Debra Johnson, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. A companion, Betty Johnson-Dixon, Brooklyn, N.Y, 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Family and friends may call at the family residence, 808 Harold Drive, Aiken, S.C. 29801 or Simmons Memorial Chapel of Elko, 803-266-2949 Friday 12:00 p.m. - 9 p.m., Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
