AUGUSTA, Ga. - William Kelly Brown Poppy loving husband of 51 years of Joyce Brown entered into rest Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at University Hospital. William was born in Harrisburg, PA to Marion and Joseph Brown. He graduated from John Harris High School, Harrisburg, PA. William attended Howard University and served in the U.S. Army. He was a faithful member of St. Alban s Episcopal Church where he served as Lay Reader, Acolyte, Chalice Bearer, and Vestry Member. William was Past Commander and Adjutant of the American Legion Carter McDaniel Way Post 235, Past Chaplain of The American Legion, 11th District of Georgia, graduate of EFM (Education for Ministry), served on the first Kairos Prison Ministry team held in Atlanta, GA and continued to serve in this ministry many years. He was formerly employed by University Hospital, FMC, NutraSweet and was a retired Title Abstractor. William mentored many young people who remember him with love and respect. He is survived by one son, Dwain Brown, Bluffton, SC; one daughter, Kelli Timmons, Augusta, GA; three devoted grandchildren, Steven William Timmons, Fort Valley State University, Epiphani Timmons, Augusta, GA and Dion Brown, Bluffton, SC; two brothers, Robert Brown (Beth), Harrisburg, PA and Joseph Brown (Elaine), Horsham, PA; two sisters, Linda Brown, Harrisburg, PA and Denise Alailima, Washington, DC; sister-in-law, Brenda Brown, Willingboro, NJ; brother-in-law, Vernon Clarke, and sister-in-law, Florence Clarke, Waco, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. William was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald Brown. Special thanks and appreciation to caretaker, Tammy Lambert who took excellent care of my husband, our father and grandfather, poppy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at W. H. Mays Mortuary. Funeral service will be conducted Friday, March 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Alban s Episcopal Church, 2321 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA 30906 Church Rector, The Very Reverend Billy J. Alford, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Alban s Episcopal Church. Honorary pallbearers: Carter McDaniel Way American Legion Post 235.
