The Augusta Chronicle-January 8, 2016 William (Billy) J. Yates, Jr. AUGUSTA, Ga. - William (Billy) J. Yates, Jr. entered into rest on Monday, January 4, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Billy was born in Camden, SC on September 26, 1950. Billy loved to sail and was a prior member of the Augusta Sailing Club. He was an artist, musician, poet and a tinkerer. He retired from the City of Augusta IT Department where he assisted in establishing the online GIS mapping system. Billy is preceded in death by his parents, William J. Yates, Sr. and Sarah Middleton Yates. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Green Yates; sister, Lynda (Cotton) Mitchell; brother, John O. Yates; stepchildren, Amanda Warr (Graham Pereira), Jennifer Jackson, William (Will) Jackson (Brooke), Chris Kerr; grandchildren, Aida and Oliver Pereira and William "Beau" Jackson, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Lee Paskey (Curtis), Shannon Mitchell (Kayla); great-nieces and nephews, Emily Paskey, Mason Paskey, Cole Mitchell, and Carter Mitchell. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016, 11:00 A.M., at First Baptist Church of Augusta, Storey Chapel. Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating.
