AUGUSTA, Ga. - William Earl Lord, Sr., 81, of Augusta, entered into eternal rest while surrounded by his loving family, on February 14, 2015, at the University Hospital in Augusta. Mr. Lord had suffered a major stroke and subsequently developed pneumonia. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors this Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 2:00 P.M., with the Reverend John Kilpatrick officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Born in Millen, Ga., June 24, 1933, he attended school there, then left and joined the Army and remained active in the military for a number of years. He served in combat in the Korean War and returned to Augusta where he met and married Barbara Ann Bailey on November 14, 1955. The couple would have been married 60 years this November. As a Korean War Veteran, he decided to settle in Augusta, where he lived for the rest of his life. During that time, he enjoyed the simple things in life and had a special love for dogs. Much of his later years were spent caring for his animals and for his daughter and son-in law's dogs, Dixie and Sadie. Mr. Lord went to work as a supervisor at the Riverside Mill but left there for a position in Quality Control at Greenfield that he held for many years until his retirement. The last few years after retirement have been devoted entirely to the care of his family. He was a devout Christian and active member of the Silvercrest Baptist Church. He was predeceased by a brother, Melvin Lord. Survivors are his loving and devoted wife, Barbara; son, William E. Lord, Jr., of Augusta; his daughter and son-in-law, Janet Lord Waters and Michael Waters of North Augusta; and his grandson, Jonathan Lord, of North Augusta; and his brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Aileen of Augusta. A special thanks to Dr. Paul Cundey, Jr. and to the 5th floor staff at University Hospital for the excellent care they rendered to Mr. Lord. The family will receive friends this Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
