LINCOLNTON, Ga. - Mrs. Myrtle Smalley Flint, 91, of 190 Peachtree St., entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at University Hospital. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Lincolnton Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Williamson and Rev. Tripp Goodwin officiating. Interment will in the Lincolnton City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Glen McCurry Matthews, Jr., Mitchell Flint Matthews, Russell Auby Matthews, David Thomas Matthews, Alexander Mitchell McGee, Joshua George McGee, Fred Hammond and Clay Turner. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. Mrs. Flint was born September 30, 1922, the daughter of Thomas Fortson Smalley, Sr. and Ruth Bohler Smalley. Myrtle, or Other Mama as her family so affectionately knew her, was a faithful member of the Lincolnton Baptist Church where she helped organize the first nursery. She also served as church clerk for 10 years, was a member of the Mamie Kirkland Circle, T.E.L. Sunday School Class, and a former choir member. The family said her heart s desire was that her family, all come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. She was a Godly mother in every sense of the word and loved all others with an unconditional love. "Her children arise up and call her blessed..." Proverbs 31:28. Her loving family includes two daughters, Myrtle Louise Matthews Rice and husband, Larry and Mickie Elaine Flint McGee and husband, Alex; seven grandchildren, Glen McCurry Matthews, Jr. and wife, Tracy, Mitchell Flint Matthews and wife, Carla, Myrtle Michelle Matthews Hammond and husband, Fred, Alexander Mitchell McGee, Russell Auby Matthews, Joshua George McGee and wife, Amy, and David Thomas Matthews; fourteen great grandchildren, Garrett Thomas Matthews, Eleese Lynn Matthews, Brett Elizabeth Matthews, Macy Michelle Moss Turner, Peyson Lee Moss, Marie Louise Matthews, Mitchell Flint Matthews, Jr., Mackenzie Grace Matthews, Bryan Jackson Matthews, Lucas Conner Matthews, Kate Ansley McGee and Abby Rose McGee; two great great grandchildren, Harley Luck Turner and Larsen McLain Turner; one sister, Helen Smalley Parks and husband, Bob; two sisters-in-law, Mozelle Smalley and Olivia Smalley; and a host of special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Flint was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty years, Walter Mitchell Flint; a son, Richie Kimble Flint, and one sister, Lillian Louise Smalley; four brothers, Thomas F. Smalley, Jr., James Smalley, Edward Smalley and Clarence Smalley; two special sisters-in-law, Marie G. Smalley and Betty A. Smalley.
