AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Sunday, July 20, 2014, Robert W. Bud Lane, Sr., 88. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Emma Ruth Lane. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Family members include sons: Bob Lane (Gwen) of Appling and Jerry Lane (Rosa) of Dallas, NC; daughters: Gail Shafer (Bob) of Hephzibah, Gloria Shell (Dino) of Appling and Sandy Millburn (Mark) of Martinez; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Mr. Lane took pride in being a World War II Veteran of the United States Marine Corp and a member of the American Legion Post 63. He coached baseball for the Richmond County Recreation Department from 1960 until 1975. Mr. Lane touched the lives and gained the respect of many young ball players who became his lifelong friends. Mr. Lane was a proud member of the Senior Softball Team and played until the age of 81. He was well known and respected throughout the area. Mr. Lane was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs Fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He took pride in his lawnmower shop and worked hard until a few months before his death, his nickname was One Pull Bud. A funeral service will be Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel at Thomas Poteet& Son with Brother Larry Hubbard, a longtime family friend, officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Travis Lane, Brian Montgomery, Bobby Shafer, Kevin Shell, Trey Poteet, Nick Doggette and Mike Doggette.
