Walter Schellhase Obituary

Evans, Ga. - Walter Lee R. Schellhase passed away to join our heavenly Father on April 4, 2009. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel, with the honorable Deacon Fred Stallings officiating. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter F. and Lida Schellhase and his brother Curtis Schellhase. He is survived by his loving wife, Margret Schellhase; his sons Brett (Hetti) Schellhase, Majuro, Marshall Islands; Andrew (Cherea) Schellhase, Spanish Fort, Alabama; and Dean (Gina) Schellhase, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; stepsons, Vincent P. Casalino, Hephzibah, Georgia; Dr. Ron Casalino, Albany, Georgia; and stepdaughter, Angel Casalino, Hephzibah, Georgia; sisters, Waneta (Ted) Biernacki and Lida (Wayne) Fredette, both of Tinley Park, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Sue Schellhase, Darien, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren and two step grandsons. Walter Lee was born and raised in Blue Island, Illinois. He worked for the Illinois Gas Company while completing his college education after having served in the United States Air Force. After graduating from college he entered into the field of computers. He moved to Louisiana to work on the Saturn 5 project with Boeing in 1963. His name appears on the Lunar Roll of Honor. In 1970 he moved to Baton Rouge to become a Computer Center Manager, retiring from the State of Louisiana in 2000 after having held several positions. He enjoyed reading, bowling with the Jack & Jill League, various other sports and gardening. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 17, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, Georgia. If so desired, donations may be made to Odyssey Health Care, 3508 Professional Circle, Suite A, Augusta, Georgia 30907.

My deepest condolences to Walter Lee's family. I worked with Walter in the IT Division at the Dept. of Health & Hospitals in Louisiana. It was a pleasure working and conversating with Walter as he had a story or explanation for everything.
