AUGUSTA, Ga. - Thomas Woodrow Benson of Mike Padgett Hwy. entered into rest Friday, January 14, 2011 at the V. A. Medical Center. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors. Mr. Benson was born in Augusta and the son of the late Johnie Woodrow and Lois Bevill Benson. He was a graduate of Butler High School and of Aiken Tech with a degree in Architectural and Mechanical drafting and served in the US Army in Germany. He is preceded in death by his sister Ellen Benson and his grandson, James M. Young III. Survivors include, his wife Gail Elaine Benson, his children, Sandra Brown (Bert) and Margie Gail Pittman, his grandchildren, Stephanie L. Young (T.J.), Ashley M. Young (Jeremy), Jennifer N. Young and Elizabeth C. Pittman, his great-grandchildren, Cheyenne E. McGahee and Alexandria G. McGahee, his sister Joyce E. Lowe and an adored cousin Christine Nolley and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 until the hour of the service.
