AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mr. Jimmie J. Rogers, 81, of Brown Road, beloved husband of Catherine Rogers for 55 years, entered into rest Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Mr. Rogers was a native of Virginia but has resided in Augusta for the past 36 years. He was retired from the U. S. Navy with 20 years of service to his country and 18 years with the National Weather Service-most of them at the Bush Field in Augusta. Mr. Rogers was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church for 33 years where he served as Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member and in other capacities. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Mary Rogers and two brothers, Joseph Rogers and William T. Rogers. In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Larry Moyer of North Augusta, SC and Janice and Mark Perper of Elberton, GA; 3 grandsons, Naaman (Faith) Smith, Jason Smith and Caleb Smith; plus 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Samuel Rogers and wife Ingrid, Roy David Rogers and wife Kathleen; and three sisters; Helen Rogers, Doris Dome, and Lillie Rubin and husband Phil. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Saturday, January 29, 2011 in the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia with Dr. Robert Driggers and Dr. Dwayne Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Honors being accorded by the U. S. Navy Ceremonial Honors Detachment. Pallbearers will be Naaman Smith, Jason Smith, Caleb Smith, Denise Seago, John Long and Alan Hanson. The family will receive friends Friday, January 28, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906.
