SANDERSVILLE, Ga. - Mr. Howard Clifford Sheppard Sr., age 86, of Sandersville, died Thursday, January 27, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 29th at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery. Rev. Lee Lacey and Rev. Marlon Lastinger will officiate. Pallbearers will be Eric Holmes, Tracy Giddens, Wendell Tompkins Sr., Larry Mathis, Sandy Mercer, Mark West, Howard Brantley, Casey Rogers, Freddie Blocker and Dean McCaskill. Mr. Sheppard was born in Washington County the son of the late Luther Sheppard and the late Ruybe Chambers Sheppard. He was the founder and retired president of the Howard Sheppard Inc. Mr. Sheppard was an organizer and member of the board of directors of the Citizens Bank of Washington County where he served as Chairman from 1965 to 2005. He was an active member and former Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville where he formerly served his church in numerous leadership roles. Mr. Sheppard was a long time member and past president of the Sandersville Lions Club where he was named a Melvin Jones Fellow and awarded the and #39;Lion of the Year Award and #39; in 1978 and 1998. Mr. Sheppard was one of the organizers of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and served as its first president. He helped organize the first Kaolin Festival and served twice as the Kaolin Parade grand Marshall. Mr. Sheppard's philanthropy work was evident at Broken Shackle Boy's Ranch where he donated land for the ranch and served on its board of directors. Mr. Sheppard was named Washington County Citizen of the Year in 1969. Survivors are his wife Barbara Holmes Sheppard of Sandersville, children, Howard Clifford and #39;Cliff and #39; Sheppard Jr. (Dianne) of Sandersville and Sharon Sheppard Ouzts (Henry) of Dalton, grandchildren, Howard Clifford and #39;Trey and #39; Sheppard III (Emily) and Mitchell Scott (Mitch) Sheppard (Brannen) all of Sandersville, Cortland Cunningham Ouzts of Charlotte NC and Jamie Carlyn Ouzts of Atlanta, and great grandchildren Howard Clifford and #39;Ford and #39; Sheppard IV, Anne Marie Sheppard, Emerson Callaway Sheppard and Benjamin Jones Sheppard all of Sandersville. The family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7pm at the home of Dianne and Cliff Sheppard 134 Transylvania Drive in Sandersville. Donations may be made to Brentwood School, P.O.
