FAIRFAX, S.C. - Mr. Laurie Franklin Jowers, 95, of O'Neal Avenue, Fairfax, entered into eternal rest Monday, May 16, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Fairfax. Interment will follow in Barnwell Memory Gardens. Mr. Jowers was born November 3, 1915 in Barnwell County and was a son of the late Wiley E. Jowers and Rosa Kennedy Jowers. He was a retired agent for Liberty Life Insurance Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairfax, an active member of the Gideon's, and was a member of the Buford Masonic Lodge No. 27 in Fairfax and the Lions Club. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending his time gardening, fishing, and hunting. Surviving are: his wife, Louise Simmons Jowers of Fairfax; children, Laurie Thomas Jowers and his wife Katy of St. Helena and Carole Freeman and her husband Jeff of Hampton; step children, Nathan Gooding and his wife Marjorie of Little Mountain, Emma Thompson and her husband Bobby of Round O, Jimmy Gooding and his wife Donna of Lexington, Betty Bowers and her husband Bob of Cayce and Charles Gooding and his friend Patty of Barnwell; grandchildren, Carl Jowers and his wife Cristy, Denise Iler and her husband John, Russ Freeman and Mandy Freeman; 4 great grandchildren; 14 step grandchildren; and 26 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Walker Jowers; brother, Perry Jowers; and a step daughter, Sara E. Jowers.
